Why this experience?

While Bangrak, a few kilometers south of Chinatown, never enjoys the reputation as a culinary neighborhood that Chinatown has among foreign visitors, it has forever been a dining destination for locals. Bangrak is home to multi-ethnic residents whose business are small restaurants serving family recipes refined and handed down over generations. It is known among local foodies for specialty restaurants serving regional Thai and ethnic cuisines. Bangrak's footpaths are occupied by food vendors, so many of them you feel like swimming a sea of street food!

Awarded Thailand’s Best Tour Program in 2013, our Historic Bangrak Food Tasting and Culture tour is the first food tour in Bangrak neighborhood. It takes you to the best Mom & Pop restaurants that only local diners know about. The restaurants, set in century-old shophouses, are truly classic and have old-school vibes. You will enjoy a diversity of cuisines from Chinese Thai, to Indian-Thai Muslim, and regional Thai.

As we roam the neighborhood on foot, you will sample delicious street snacks and learn a lot about Thai street food culture. Between food stops, we will visit historical sites off tourist's paths. You will learn about Thai culture, and how Buddhism is a major part of Thai lives. Our children and elderly guests have found the walking absolutely easy, they feel right at ease. This experience is designed so you can eat like locals and get off the beaten paths. Dining in Bangrak is not only about you enjoying the food, your experience goes way into supporting the community, helping these Mom & Pop restaurants to thrive.

  • Green Curry with Roti

Enjoy various kinds of ethnic and region Thai cuisines

Thanks to the multi-ethnic residents of Bangrak, we are able to taste the flavors of Northeastern Thailand, Central Thailand, Thai-Chinese, and Indian-Thai Muslim cuisines, all of these in just a few hours.

Your first taste of Bangkok is a renowned roasted duck with rice, a delicacy served in the Bang Rak area for over 50 years. Next, refresh your palate with authentic Chinese bitter water and enjoy local desserts as we stroll through the vibrant streets. Our next stop is a renowned bakery shop in Bangrak, a family-owned establishment serving delectable Thai pandan custard bread and Thai tea for more than 70 years. Managed by the fourth generation, this bakery is a testament to the enduring appeal of Thai cuisine. We then explore the majestic Assumption Cathedral, followed by a tasting of Thai desserts. A real slice of Thai culture and food

    5.0

We thoroughly enjoyed our foodie experience of historic Bang rak with our guide Lily. She was enthusiastic, knowledgable and fun. We loved all family run businesses she took us to - places we would have been unaware of as tourists - but in each one the food was superb. A really well thought out and planned tour - a great mixture of restaurants and through the food we were able to learn so much more about Thai culture and the history of the area. Loved spending the morning with Lily - she was the perfect host. I would definitly recommend anyone interested in food or Thai culture to do this tour!

    Absolutely excellent!

If I could give 12 out of 10 I would. Was an excellent, relaxed experience and would recommend to anyone. Our tour guide (Mod) was charismatic, spoke excellent English, and incorporated everyone with great ease. At the end of the tour we did not want to say goodbye! The tour included visiting local restaurants that we definitely would not have visited otherwise, walking through areas and tasting food from street vendors that we would not have thought to have done on our own.

Mod made my elderly parents feel right at ease, and the pace was perfect for them to keep up. I was very concerned that they would not be able to keep up, but not only did they keep up, Mod inspired them to go and see a few attractions after walking the whole morning. She also introduced us to the public transport which gave us confidence to continue using afterwards.

I would highly recommend this tour in the beginning of your trip, as we learned many things about the culture, language, politics, religion, cuisine, etc that we could use throughout the rest of the trip.

    Really felt like a local

    5.0

My sister had done this tour previously and recommended it to us. And we were not disappointed! Lily was a Thai local and knew all the best places to eat, took us on a great tour and told us some of the history of the area. She was able to answer all the questions we had about the area and its history and traditions. It was relaxed, delicious, informative and fun! Next time I'm in Thailand I plan to try the other tours ( I want to do them all!!!)- already looking forward to it! I really recommend this tour group! One tip- don't eat the meal before your tour- you seriously need to go hungry!

A great way to get to know local Thai cuisine

    5.0

This was a great way to not only experience numerous new types of food but also to get the lay of the land and learn a huge amount about Bangkok itself after we arrived in Thailand. Our tour guide was Nute, who was excellent, spoke english flawlessly and never tired of our ceaseless questions. They do a great job of finding little out of the way or "hole in the wall" places that I would never find by myself and showing you how and what the locals typically eat. The food itself was amazing, likely the best noodles and broths I've ever had and the amount of food was more than enough for two people. You certainly won't go hungry.

    Good introduction to Thai Cuisine

We were guided on the Bang Rak food tour by the wonderful Lily. She was very knowledgeable and tailored the tour to suit our family making it interesting for our son 10yrs. We visited several family restaurants as well as some local sites. The walking isn't too vigerous and stops were often & some of the restaurants have airconditioning. We tasted duck; crispy pork belly; chicken masaman; Green curry chicken with Thai roti, tamarind ice cream, Pandan buns; chicken knuckles & catfish floss all delicious. Highly recommended. Easy to book and organize direct.

    Adventurous Eating!

    5.0

A food tour with this group was a fun way to end our two week adventure in Thailand and Cambodia. They took us to some really cool, off the beaten path spots to get a taste of Thailand. Massaman curry at a Muslim restaurant, some medicinal drink for energy, pastries, ice cream, pineapple with chili and more. It was a lot of fun and the tour guide was friendly, adventurous and engaging! We enjoyed it very much and highly recommend adding to your itinerary!
